It’s Here!

Flee As a BirdLast summer Bob and I experienced for the first time the majesty of the awesome Great Rocky Mountains. 2 months later I took a personal retreat in a cabin in the gentler, older, wise Ozark Mountains. I find spiritual solace and strength in the mountains.

Around the same time my voice student Carol Aultman asked me if I had made an arrangement of the old gospel song “Flee As a Bird to Your Mountain.” …Within a few days, I had.

Through my encounters with the mountains and my introduction to that old gospel song which sings of our soul’s need for refuge, God launched me into the work for my 4th solo CD – FLEE AS A BIRD. I pray the songs I selected will create a road to your personal “mountain” retreat.

Along with hymns of faith and strength ( “Be Still My Soul,” “Abide with Me,” “Be Thou My Vision”), I have created new musical meditations inspired by the gospel songs of my childhood (“Leaning,” “Breathe on Me,” “Shine” – from “This Little Light of Mine”). These meditations may serve as a pathway into your prayer and meditation or as a 3-minute sanity break!

As always, I have had much help:

  • God’s divine inspiration guided me at each turn.
  • My musical and life partner Robert Smith has been invaluable. He is my 2nd set of ears and eyes in the creative process and the other half of the musical equation – bringing those arrangements to life.
  • Helping to “capture the lightening in a bottle” was sound engineer Bob Parr of OnPar Recording Studio. Patient, creative and knowledgeable!
  • Carrie Dils took my visual ideas and worked her magic on the jacket layout, as well as on the continuing development of my website. A joy to work with her! She has already uploaded ALL of my musical arrangements of the CD to the website. Check them out and enjoy!

I invite you also to check out the CD.

My prayer and desire is that FLEE AS A BIRD will give wings to your soul in its flight to God’s refuge.
